Policies and Procedures

These policies and procedures are made to protect the student, parent, and teacher alike. Understanding each of our responsibilities in music lessons allows for an equally fun and educational experience! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns that arise.

Policies and Procedures of Mary Kathryn Music Lessons

These policies and procedures are created with the wellbeing of both the student

and teacher in mind and are subject to change if needed.

Lessons

Lessons will be conducted at First Baptist Church of Dothan, AL.
(300 W Main St, Dothan, AL 36301)

Schedule

Lessons will be held on a weekly basis for both the Fall (August-December) and Spring (January-May) semesters. Summer lessons will be held by agreement from the student and teacher on a more flexible schedule.

Tuition

Tuition is due at the last lesson of each month either by cash, check, or Venmo. Checks should be made out to “Mary Kathryn Parrott”. Payment will be accepted without a late fee until the following lesson. Failure to pay after the grace period will result in a late fee of $10.

Tuition rates are set by the teacher and are subject to change if needed.
Current rates are -
30 minute lesson: $30

45 minute lesson: $45
1 hour lesson: $60

Additional Fees

Copying and Supplies Fee: All students will be asked to contribute a $10 fee per semester to cover copies and provided materials, such as binders and notebooks.

Recital Fee: All students participating in the recital will be asked to contribute a $20 fee per semester to cover accompanist fees, space use, decorations, food, etc.

Tardiness

Students are expected to notify the teacher by phone if they expect to be late to a lesson.

If a student arrives after their scheduled lesson time has begun, the teacher will complete the lesson in the remaining portion of the time slot.  Additional time for student tardiness is not guaranteed.

If the teacher arrives after a scheduled lesson has begun, the teacher will give additional time past the time slot to compensate for their tardiness with mutual acceptance of the student's schedule.

Rescheduling

Rescheduling is permitted at the availability of the teachers schedule. Requests to reschedule must be given 24 hours in advance and should try to be scheduled within the same week. Weekends are not permitted. Within reason, students may reschedule as many lessons as needed per semester.

Cancellations

If unable to reschedule, the student must cancel lessons at least 24 hours in advance either by phone or email. Cancellations are considered excused for illness, injury, or family emergency. If you have been sick for multiple days, please give warning at least 24 hours in advance to be considered an excused absence.
Excused cancellations with sufficient notification will be given a make-up lesson within the month or lesson credit towards the following month. Three excused absences are permitted per semester.
No-shows, or cancellations without sufficient notification will not be given make-up lessons or lesson credits and will still be required to pay for the lesson time. Communication is key! The teacher may allow exceptions in the case of extenuating circumstances.

Makeup Lessons/
Lesson Credit

As stated above, makeup lessons/lesson credits will be granted for an excused absence due to cancellation. Makeup lessons will be scheduled during the teachers open availability. If no mutual time can be found, the student will be granted a lesson credit for the following month. Three makeup lessons/lesson credits are permitted per semester. Excused absences beyond the three permitted will not receive makeup lessons/lesson credits.

Recitals

Recitals will be held at the end of both the Fall and Spring semesters (unless extenuating circumstances arise.) Students are highly encouraged to participate in both recitals but are not required. The teacher will make sure that each student has sufficient time to prepare and perform their recital pieces.

Sheet Music

Voice students: Sheet music for lessons is not included in the tuition price or supplies fee. The teacher will make photocopies of music when possible, but additional purchase of music will be added on to the monthly balance.

Piano students: Piano books are not included in the tuition price or supplies fee. All purchase of books should be made by the parent as outlined by the teacher.

Amazon is a great place to buy voice/piano books and receive them quickly!
